06.05.25 8 ways to keep shoppers in your store for longer Online purchases continue to grow, yet people still want to shop in a physical shop. By applying several smart tactics to the shop design, the buying behaviour of customers can be influenced. In this blog, we give you some tips on how to optimise shop design. With some help from psychology, we assume that it will boost sales and customers will stay longer in the physical shop. What is important in physical shop design? The shop design has become increasingly important in recent years because the customer no longer focuses only on buying a product. It is about the experience, the customer wants to have a good experience and create an experience. 1. Atmosphere, music and lighting All kinds of factors such as interaction with staff and the design of the shop have a positive influence on a good shopping experience. Also (background) music and the right lighting can contribute to a positive shopping experience. 2. Slow down the pace Everyone is busy. People usually walk into the shop at a fast pace. One way to slow them down is to place an eye-catching setting or display in front just after the entrance. Otherwise, customers will run through the shop to get to their planned errand and then be outside again in no time. And that, of course, is not what you want. 3. Change the layout regularly Do you know the situation that you go to your local supermarket and then find out that they have changed the layout. Everything has been moved to a different place...Since the unfamiliar layout means you have to search, you walk through the shop slower. You spend more time in the shop, and during your search you happen to come across all kinds of other products, which then also end up in your basket. So it's a good idea to change the layout regularly! 4. All eyes on the right side Did you know you can optimise your customers' route choices? One tip is to place the most important products in the shop on the right-hand side of an aisle/row or wall. In this way, you can arrange the wall system better. By nature, people tend to go to the right and look first. 5. Cool product video Another way to make customers stay longer in your shop is to use moving images with videos: A video informs customers in an easy way and it can boost sales. Place a nice display near the video screen and make sure customers can watch at eye level. By using an eye-catching display with an attractive video, the shopper will certainly watch the moving images. 6. Place different products of the same brand together Another good idea is to place different products of the same brand together. If a customer is already familiar with a certain product and there are other products to go with it, he is more likely to buy them. When your customer for instance already knows the fuels of the Fancy Flames collection and the fire baskets or patio heaters are close by, presented in the right way, you increase the chance of sales and the customer leaves the shop with a satisfied feeling. 7. Responding to trends Sustainability is a recurring theme. Customers are increasingly aware of the importance of products being sustainable. Products can be sustainably produced, made from sustainable materials or sustainably packaged. You can communicate this in many ways in the shop, for example by putting stickers on the products with a sustainability logo. 8. Save the best for last: Checkout bargains People are often tempted to make a (small) impulse purchase at the checkout. It's great to have a number of displays boxes that are ideal for use at the checkout. Easy to set up, easy to dismantle and suitable for low-priced articles.
